   authorities would not deputize you to tell us over Usenet, nor would they   
   desire to keep it secret

   Imagine the silliness of your scenario: law enforcement wanting to arrest some   
   suspects, but refusing to move on them until they get a lawyer in response to   
   a cyber-deputy daring them, online, to do such. Criminals can walk free,   
   perpetually, simply by    
   never getting around to hiring a lawyer. It’s hilariously insane!
