To protect oneself, modesty and honesty are paramount.
Don't be boastful and arrogant. Play nice and little. Don't
bounce around like a caged tiger (or tigress). If one
wants to talk about mental culture in whatever form, one
should make disclaimers about not having practiced it or
realised it to avoid being tested on it. Don't make claims
that one cannot live up to. Don't exhibit one's weak
points, surely not in a repeated manner, for once they
are known, they can be drilled further -- homed in -- for
effects, to draw one out. Play with levity, humour and
irony, fluff it up with satire to deflect potential hits. And if
one gets hit anyway, laugh one's teeth out at the clumsy
attempts to rile one up with mere words on the screen.
Keep detachment and equability, they are handy,
specially as one is protected by asynchronicity.

In general, there are two rules of thumb: don't let the
trolls drag one down to their levels, and don't bite more
than one can chew. That way, one can play all one wants,
thrive all the way, and nobody can touch one.
