Strictly cash up front at the visa store, huh?

When you have a free place to stay, any job will do.

Of course if you don't, things are different.

It wasn't illegal Mexicans that I had in mind. They pretty much always
have people here they can live with, and when you have a free place to
stay, any job is good enough.

I guess based on your comments that things are the same all over. If that
suits you, fine. It doesn't suit me.

Does the current state of affairs cause me discomfort? Not if I shut my
eyes. But I've had enough nasty shit happen in my life that it just flat
pisses me off when I see it happening to others. My bad, just because I'm
alive and awake that means I'm supposed to let people suffer as a show of
equanimity? Tough luck, I don't like seeing people suffer.

Even here, in mental-culture-land, where everybody has made a fulltime job
of waking up, I'm seeing people stuck in the same old thing, instead of
waking up. Maybe they haven't made a fulltime job of it. Yet.

Maybe they never will. Maybe I should sleep more and post less.

I don't think so. I think it's the good-times boys who have the free time
to post here. You ever pull one of your own teeth because you didn't have
any way to pay a dentist? Hell, it's easy, you saw Tom Hanks do it in the
movie with nothing more than a rock and a stick. Needle-nosed pliers are
probably easier, if you have them.

Today the poor have Obamacare to take another chunk out of every paycheck.
I know a guy who pays $1000 a month for useless Obamacare insurance with a
$10,000 deductible. He still has kids at home. He's a responsible guy,
he's obligated by the State to do "the right thing" according to the laws
of the land, laws that make his life more difficult instead of less
   difficult.

If America was the prosperous country we'd prefer to believe it is, the
only reason for things to be as they are is that we're a country afraid
somebody else will get what's ours. Wealth has to do with having more than
is needed. The fact that the wealthy are so wealthy is proof of-itself
that they are afraid they don't have enough. The fact that inheritance
laws let the children of wealth take an easier route than the children of
poverty is proof that the wealthy do not truly believe that America is a
land of opportunity where their kids can get a top-grade education without
paying more than the poorest kids in the country, start their own
businesses without daddy's money, be allowed to succeed, or fail, without
fear of needing to knock out their own teeth with some goddamned rock.

No, it isn't that way. It's an elitist society, as perhaps all societies
are. You're a member, or you're out in the cold. I think that's messed
up. Mileage is likely to vary.
