   What's the point of dropping clues if nobody picks them up? And who is   
   likely to pick them up, when everybody involved in "mental culture" is sure   
   they know just how it all works? People want something that works. But   
   everybody knows how things work, they're sure of it, that's why they're all   
   enlightened and suchlike, because the clues dropped 2500+ years ago have   
   been rearranged by a bunch of students who were all sure they knew just how   
   it all worked, improved to the point where none of it can be applied.   
      
   If the whole "mental culture" thang had been specifically designed to   
   prevent those who most need it from finding it, it wouldn't look much   
   different, would it? Maybe that's a clue.
