May I be a bit dry and intellectual here. It all depends
on how one takes what happens (or what does not
happen). That margin of freedom is freedom, itself in
itself. It is all the difference, without remainders. Let the
dead bury the dead may mean (I am not saying that it
means) to drop all concerns and enjoy what is present,
in front ("Consider how the lilies grow: They do not labor
or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory
was adorned like one of these". Or: "And why do you
worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field
grow: They do not labor or spin.") Heaven and hell are
just gross exaggerations (materialisations) of the choices
(or absence thereof) made right here and now, without
   any background.

The moral is that it is up to your spin. (All the usual
   disclaimers ...)
