Habits are choices you have made, and to permit them to continue is
   likewise a choice.

Oftentimes we are bullied by parents and teachers into habits like not
saying "f*ck" where the church lady can hear, sometimes we pick up habits
unintentionally like that, and sometimes we build them with a purpose.

I run on habit, it's the basis of my life, it means I don't have to
remember every little detail every time, I can just reach for the
screwdriver because I habitually put it where it belongs, and I can let my
heart beat and my guts digest without constantly becoming involved in the
details, thus providing a little leisure-time for the mind, which pisses
away all the unused thought in meaningless chatter associated with the
day's events and what dreams might be derived from them.

Which is fine, sometimes I'll smile at dinner and the wife will want to
know what's funny, then I can tell her a really *really* bad corny joke my
idle chatter machine made up in my spare time. It can do whatever it wants
in my spare time, and what it does tells me things, about what's going on
in my world, or might be impending, but it doesn't mean I have to get down
on the floor and roll around with the dog to play with it, I can just pitch
it a stick once in a while and see what it fetches if it runs into a
   squirrel.

That's all fine for as long as you can stay awake, but when you fall asleep
you've left your idiot mind to run your entire world at full tilt and the
dreams go many layers deep before we wake in the middle of the idle chatter
machine's din to try and find its shutoff switch which is on the end of a
long cord whipping around through the rest of the spaghetti.
