|    Cleansed by Jesus' word    |

From: richarra@gmail.com              Cleansed by Jesus' word               "So the world - life enslaved by carnal passions - can no more       receive the grace of the Spirit than a weak eye can look at the light       of a sunbeam. First the Lord cleansed his disciples' lives through his       teaching, and then he gave them the ability to both see and       contemplate the Spirit. He says, 'You are already made clean by the       word I have spoken to you' (John 15:3). Therefore 'the world cannot       receive him, because it neither sees him nor knows him... You know       him, for he dwells with you' (John 14:17). Isaiah says, 'He who       settled the earth and the things in it; and gives breath to the people       on it, and Spirit to them that tread on it' (Isaiah 42:5). From this       we can learn that those who trample earthly things and rise above them       become worthy to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."        by Basil the Great, 329-379(excerpt from ON THE HOLY SPIRIT 22.53)              <<>><<>><<>>       May 29th - St. Bona of Pisa              Born at Pisa, Italy, c. 1156; died there in 1207.              It is said that Bona experienced visions from early childhood, in one       of which she was blessed by Saint James the Greater. By the age of 10       she had dedicated herself under the Augustinian rule, and at 14 she       made her first journey, going off to see her father who was fighting       in the crusades near Jerusalem.              On the way back she was captured by Islamic pirates in the       Mediterranean, wounded and imprisoned. Rescued by some fellow Pisans,       she made her way home. However, nothing daunted, she set out again,       this time taking with her a large number of pilgrims to make the       1,000-mile journey to Compostella.              From this time she became one of the official guides on this famous       pilgrimage route, under the auspices of the Knights of Saint James.       She made the journey nine times, "full of energy, helpful, and       unselfish, ready to reassure with her smile those who were sick."              Already ill, she attempted a final pilgrimage, but was overcome not       far from home. She was able to return to Pisa, and died in her little       room near the church of San Martino. In recent times Saint Bona has       come to be associated as patron of travellers along with Saint       Christopher, and in particular of couriers, guides and air-hostesses,       receiving acknowledgement not least from airline companies (Attwater).                     Saint Quote:       Dismiss all anger and look into yourself a little. Remember        that he of whom you are speaking is your brother, and,        as he is in the way of salvation, God can make him       a Saint, in spite of his present weakness.`       -- St. Thomas of Villanova              Bible Quote:       Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the       destroyer. (1Co 10:10)                     <><><><>       Daily Thoughts and Prayers for Our Beloved Dead              "Have pity on me, have pity on me, at least you my friends, because       the hand of the Lord hath touched me" Job. 19-21.              28th DAY              In Purgatory, the just and loving soul loses sight of everything but       the purity of God, which it loves and the necessity of making itself       worthy of this purity. This suffering is so intense, because it is       ignorant of the length of its exile from the sight of God.              Prayers: Our Father, Three Hail Marys, Gloria, De Profundis.              De Profundis               Out of the depths, I have cried to Thee,       O Lord, Lord, hear my voice.        Let Thine ears be attentive to the       voice of my supplication.        If Thou, O Lord, shalt mark my iniquities,       O Lord, who shall stand it?        For with Thee there is merciful       forgiveness: and by reason of Thy       law I have waited for Thee, O Lord.       My soul hath relied on His word;       my soul hath hoped in the Lord.        From the morning watch even until       night; let Israel hope in the Lord.       Because with the Lord there is mercy;       And with Him plenteous redemption.        And He shall redeem Israel from       all its iniquities.        Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,       And let perpetual light shine upon them:        May they rest in peace. Amen.              Jesus meek and humble of Heart, hear our prayers in behalf of the       souls suffering in Purgatory, particularly those paying the debt       exacted for pride. Release them from their pain today, that they may       evermore glorify Thee in Heaven and intercede for us in the hour of       need.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
