Some examples of thorns in religion, mythology, folklore and history that I
   know of are:

   1. the thorn bush of Moses
   2. the crown of thorns of Jesus (plus the thorns around the heart of Jesus in
the old Catholic Sacred Heart of Jesus picture)
   3. the piercing of hands and feet mentioned in the Old Testament
   4. the self-sacrifice of Quetzalcoatl on thorns
   5. the hedge of thorns that the hero has to burst through in the original
   Sleeping Beauty story
   6. the wall of thorns in the Pied Piper story
   7. the “dragon-demon’s thorns” in a poem by Tsangyang Gyatso, the sixth
   Dalai Lama

Do you know of any other instances?

I suspect that the spear and tree in Havamal 138 and the boar’s tusks that
wounded Adonis may also have been thorns.
