Because Americans crave corporatism, that's why. They believe it's the
only safeguard against the evils of free market capitalism.

Free market capitalism is scary. It makes you the captain of your own
life. It takes away all your excuses.

No one on earth fears and loathes the free market as much as a
successful and prosperous businessman. Their primary interest in life is
closing the door behind them. And then locking the door.

You could erect a "wall of separation" between business and government,
but then you'd have no insurance against market corrections and
   recessions in the future.

Can't have that. That's just too frightening.

So, just like every other corner of your life, you must abide by the
   decisions you've made.

You want corporatism, this is pretty much what you get. 2% GDP growth
that isn't actually 2% growth of your economy at all. A Dodd-Frank bill
that will limit your financial choices for the rest of your life. A
Federal Reserve Board that will continue to reward bad actors in the
marketplace, and who will continue to manufacture dollars on your
children's backs. And demagogues on every street corner telling you your
misery is somehow, someway, a rich man's fault.

Corporatism will continue to grow and grow and grow until the system
collapses in on itself. When that happens, all your friends and
neighbors will blame the collapse on the non-existent phantom of free
   market capitalism.

At that time, you'll turn your back on both capitalism and corporatism.

   Where will that leave you?
