   Being an atheist, I am not an expert on souls, other than the thing that we   
   all feel we have apart from our bodies. From an IT point of view, it would   
   be the program or memories versus the hardware platform which is analygous   
   to the physical body.   
      
   Thus I do not understand what you mean by a "soul" for a place or a   
   commercial beer brand. Perhaps you have abstracted the canonical sum of   
   your expectations of the memories or ideas of all other people about   
   Guinness (or the River Liffey) into a generalized concept. I can easily   
   imagine that my dog has a soul, because she has feelings, independant   
   thoughts, and sometimes REM-state dreams.   
      
   But a river is simply a flowing body of water. For sure, an individual   
   river can evoke memories of events (and feelings) you have had previously   
   when at the same locale, and the sum of the memories (and feelings) of   
   everyone (and his dog) of that river might be categorized slightly   
   different than for other rivers, but it is not the same thing as a soul.   
      
   And if you feel that Guinness has a soul, you have fallen completely into   
   the trap set for you by the marketing company hired by Guinness.

   Be careful with this. It is much too subjective to be of any practical use.   
   You may feel that you have the ability to align other people's souls, but   
   in all likelyhood it is grossly clouded by your expectations given that   
   there is not objective way of measuring it.
