   Jesus claimed that he was perfect. He claimed that all should worship him   
   forever. He claimed that those who do not obey him will burn forever in a lake   
   of fire. All three claims are not true.  Around this core the Fundamentalist   
   Christians have packaged    
   a variety of beliefs and made an all-or-none package.   
      
   I love Christmas lights and Jingle Bells. I believe in the morality of loving   
   my neighbors and that includes Christians and Jews and Muslims and Humanists,   
   etc. I attempted for many years to speak to the Christian community. I spoke   
   to Christians of    
   morality and a lot of what I saw was theology. I grew weary as the years   
   passed and as the world unraveled around me.    
      
   In the end I decided these simple things: the Earth upon which I stand is made   
   of starstuff billions of years old. It has been walked on by many peoples. It   
   is not the solid ground of exclusive Christianity. The sky above is not ruled   
   by the dictator    
   King. My eyes and mouth were not created by the Trinity. They come from three   
   billion years of evolutionary majesty. The Merrian Webster dictionary is a   
   dictionary. I shatter forever the dark spell around me, beneath me, above me,   
   everywhere around me. I    
   am the magician David Elkins. My magic is to speak the truth, to fight against   
   the darkness.
