Since that first spark occurred when my then yoga teacher
was demonstrating Valakhilyasana, I attribute the
mystic sparks to Valakhilya, who in B.K.S. Iyengar's
Light on Yoga are defined as thumb-sized entities
that precede the sun's chariot. I refer to them as
little messengers of the sun, and consider them to
be energy beings and a form of angels, but not as
deities to me (though the sun is a deity to me).
