|    Aliens would not be on our side    |

From: jtem01@gmail.com              Think of the classic concept of "Aliens" -- the SciFi Martians,       perhaps -- those aliens couldn't exist. We'd have nothing       of ours that they'd want.              Information? Data? I suppose that's possible. But it's ridiculous       to think of aliens crossing the vastness of space for our natural       resources.              Imagine the cost, even in just resources, to travel all the way       here, collect & store whatever resources you were in need of,       then transporting them back to your home planet... the       investment would represent orders of magnitude more than the       return. Unless...              Unless you saw "Independence Day."              This is a scenario that works, I'm afraid, perhaps the only       scenario that works.              To colonize Mars or even our moon people would have to be       effectively isolated from their environment. They'd need to       live in a bubble, shielded from their world and it's atmosphere.              So why bother with Mars or the moon? Just build that bubble that       the colony needs to live in, slap a couple of engines to it and       you have a space colony.              THAT is a formula that works. And THOSE are aliens that might want       our resources.              So, no benevolent aliens coming in peace, guiding us to a golden       age. That's just fantasy. No, if aliens came here that means that       they have colonized space -- not planets but space itself -- and       roam the cosmos in search of resources to allow them to survive       and even to grow.              COLLECTIVE STUPIDITY              We look at insect intelligence where the individuals possess only       the most basic intelligence yet collectively they build complex       structures... our aliens would be the opposite. They would be       intelligent, civilized beings, perhaps far beyond us in intelligence       and certainly beyond us in knowledge, yet collectively behaving as       an infectious bacteria or even a virus.              Think about it.                                          --       https://jtem.tumblr.com/tagged/The%20Book%20of%20JTEM/page/5              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
