Some vegans make their cats sick by making them eat a vegan diet.

Chickens and pigs are omnivores, like humans, and it has been
demonstrated over and over that they need protein in their diets. Not
just any protein, pretty much every study that has compared plant
protein diets (even with essential amino acid supplements to make them
comparable in amino acid content) that animal protein diets produce more
muscle and faster growth. Plant proteins are different enough in things
like amino acid content that a lot of animals are better geared to get
the most out of animal proteins. Like eggs, other goodies come in with
the bone meal or fish meal used as protein supplements, but studies try
to compensate for these additional feed ingredients by reducing other
supplements. Dietary proteins aren't just sources of amino acids for
protein production, but the amino acids are metabolized to make other
products that the cells need. Eggs have evolved to have the protein
necessary to produce a healthy chick, and it is one of the best protein
sources for a child's diet. Egg contents have not evolved to be
   inefficient hatchling producers.
