   It was very weak selection, and didn't put a significant dent in the   
   population.  Even though the unvaccinated where dying at a rate over 10   
   times that of the vaccinated that was still only less than 1% of the   
   infected.  Once they survived infection they were essentially naturally   
   immunized and just had a death rate just slightly higher than the   
   vaccinated.  They were still more likely to die and have severe symptoms   
   likely because the updated vaccines were a better match for the virus   
   that was constantly evolving, so the vaccines were better than having   
   natural immunity to a sequence that was no longer as relevant.
