   and right there you have made a very compelling argument for   
   legalization and the ending of Prohibition.  Right now the government   
   chooses to allow organized crime to control the drug trade.  This is   
   great for both cops and criminals but sucks for the rest of us that is   
   getting it fast and hard from both sides.  Prohibition is the laws that   
   allow drug crime to flourish and thrive and continue to result in the   
   systemic violence in our Society.  Take away the drug trade from   
   organized crime and you will also remove much of the violence that is   
   bred in our Society, making it safer for all of us.   
   Portugal had a bad drug problem in the 90's and decided to try going in   
   the opposite direction and instead of making harsher prohibition ...they   
   legalized all drugs.  They are a western european society that has been   
   around a lot longer than we have as a society.  If you are curious to   
   know you should look into their social experiment with drugs to see what   
   effect legalizing them had over there.
