Wrong. Alcohol is extremely good at frying brains:-

   0602/al200602_p3.html

"In-patient care for people who have mental health or behavioural
disorders resulting from alcohol misuse, has also increased significantly,
   rising to 126,300 admissions in 2004-05, from 72,500 in 1995-96 (75 per
   cent over the ten years)."

126,300 people experienced the brain-frying effects of alcohol in 04-05.

I bet the Daily Mail alkies don't mention that fact in their
   anti-drugs-other-than-booze inventions.
