Health Services for everyone is a Public Health measure, if the
   person
with a broken arm is not treated properly he/she might become a
   public
charge. . Strange things can happen to people even those who try
   to take
every reasonable step to safeguard their health. There are plenty of
diseases with no cures and no easy tests to determine the cause.
     That
why the TV show "House" is popular. House himself will be in a
   mental
treatment facility in the coming season and that should be
   enlightening
   to the viewers.

You want to know what life was like before anti-biotics read
Philip Wylie's "Generation of Vipers". The people who stand in
   the way
of access to treatment for the poor and low income middle class folks
are a lot like that, a generation of vipers spewing poison words
   at the
   attempts the government is making.

Wylie was a racist but he clearly saw that people of all classes
needed care if for no other reason than the Public Health.

   	later
bliss - whose father died of a ruptured appendix in 1939. By 1949
the anti-biotics would have been available and he would have lived
   into a crusty old age.
