I've turned down several jobs as a oil drilling rig radio operator at sea
   because of the helicopter transport.
Almost all of the helicopter pilots I have seen are cowboys, in the worst sense
of the word. Looking at the air crash records most of the accidents seemed to
   be
caused by cowboy type behaviour or inattention on the part of the pilot.
Now if I could be anaesthetised, loaded onto the helicopter, taken out to the
rig and bought to, that would be perfect. Then as long as I didn't have to look
down over the edge to the sea or up to the top of the righead or cranes, I
   would
   be fine.
That and the sheer mind shattering boredom of it, 3 weeks on, one week off.
I also worked out I couldn't carry enough books to read in my hand luggage to
fill in the hours of waiting, waiting, waiting. The only other thing that the
radio operator did was to be lifeboat drill supervisor.
