Think compromise or, er, bipartisanship. It doesn't have to be all
one way. Just a few years ago there was a tremendous
tobacco/cigarette industry. I'll bet that industry could be restarted
and retooled to sell marijuana cigarettes. If there is something
Americans exceed at, all over the world, it has to include packaging
and marketing cigarettes. Mercenaries like Xe (Blackwater), Triple
Canopy, etc. could be employed locally securing some of the larger
commercial fields. For sure, private cultivation would have to be
legal, as would simple possession. But just as home brewing or
micro-breweries haven't caused the death of large commercial
breweries, home grown dope shouldn't cause that much of a problem for
commercial growers as there will always be a substantial amount of
customers who just don't want to put up with the hassle of doing it
themselves.
And cheese and rice, smoking is hardly the only thing that can be done
with the plant. I'm pretty sure diesel engines, with very little if
any modification, can run quite happily on hemp seed oil, after all,
Rudolph Diesel originally designed them to run on peanut oil. Paper,
clothes, rope, etc. It might be easier to list things that cannot be
made with the plant.
The same people that are making money right now can also be making
money and helping America at the same time.
