Generally it is hard cultivating and harvesting crops of all       sorts from lettuce to fruit. I remember in California the use of the       short handled hoe was the subject of controversy. Hoeing the crops,       Weeding the crops and harvesting if done in the sun light were very       tiring. Inhaling the fumes and particles that had been crop dusted       onto the crops to try to keep the insect damage down was not good       for the Braceros. Frequently it was families from the time the child       was old enough until if lucky they could start schooling. Farm owners       were resistant to providing sanitation and water during the picking       seasons.        Since the California farmers could not use slaves they used       immigrant labor from over the nearest border. Without the low cost       labor prices to the ultimate consumer would soar.        Now you ask the MAGAns why they don't take the Braceros       jobs?               I am very pale-skinned which might have been called peaches       and cream before I got exposed to sunlight but then became freckled       and before I hit 40 I had pre-squamous cell carcinoma on my face.       At 60 despite removal of most of these pre-cancerous lesions I       had a fairly large cancerous lesion which was surgically removed.       And if i had done farm work in the field the lesions would have       been larger and more frequent. So having been sunburned as a child       and having some medical knowledge from my training as a hospital       corps person in the USN I attempted to minimize my expose to the       rays of old Sol. So some Trumpites may fell but i bet they feel       that that field work is beneath them.        But feel free to verify my speculations by talking       to the MAGA and QAnon people.               bliss                     --       b l i s s - S F 4 e v e r at D S L E x t r e m e dot com              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
