   Coal and oil deposits started back when life was first colonising dry land.   
   They   
   have been outside the carbon cycle during the entire evolution of not just of   
   primates, but also of chordates. From a billion years ago to the first life,   
   there were only single celled prokaryotes on earth, most of which did not   
   metabolise with oxygen.
