   On June 26 workers at the Sheraton Club des Pins officially announced   
   their intention to form a trade union with a petition containing some   
   300 signatures. Rather than responding to their request to hold a   
   founding assembly, in accordance with the standard procedures,   
   management responded by dismissing 3 union delegates, initiating legal   
   proceedings against the 5 delegates and then proceeding to dismiss   
   virtually the entire staff following a protest born of deep and   
   understandable frustration.   
      
   Management then summonsed workers to meetings with human resource   
   managers and presented them with notices of dismissal or fines, without   
   warning, and statements in which they renounce their right to be   
   accompanied and assisted by another colleague or by legal counsel. These   
   procedures contravene all international norms and standards.   
      
   I therefore urge you to take the necessary actions to have all dismissed   
   employees immediately and unconditionally reinstated to their former   
   positions and to enter into a constructive dialogue with these employees   
   and their representatives.
