   How many public figures and media commentators are denouncing the   
   government on this issue? If there aren't many then it's not really   
   politicians it's the governing classes in general.   
      
   That would make sense -- the EU is in effect a union of the   
   governing classes that frees them from the need to be answerable to   
   the people. They can agree on things among themselves and then tell   
   their people that everything's been decided elsewhere and nothing   
   can be done about it.
