   Franco stood up to Hitler and did not allow Spain to be dragged into   
   WW2.   
      
   If Spain had entered the war Gibralter would have fallen into German   
   hands and Britain would have been unable to defend Egypt and the Suez   
   Canal. It would have been impossible to invade Italy.   
      
   There would have been a much greater danger of the war ending in a   
   Nazi victory.
