|    State's hybrid electric ferry taken out     |

XPost: alt.energy.renewable, seattle.politics, sac.politics       XPost: sci.skeptic       From: crybaby.alex@diapers.poo              SEATTLE — The Wenatchee, the state's first hybrid-electric ferry, was       taken out of service on Sunday for the third time since the vessel made       its debut in July.              A Washington State Ferries (WSF) spokesperson said one of the main       engines shut down twice due to a fault in the "overspeed protection       circuit." Engineers were able to resolve the issue that same evening,       and the boat returned to service for the first sailing to Bainbridge       Island at 4:45 a.m. on Monday.              The Wenatchee is a nearly 30-year-old ship that underwent a       two-year-long retrofitting process to replace two of its diesel engines       with batteries. It's one of the biggest vessels in WSF's fleet.              Just weeks after hitting the water, the vessel was taken out of service       for the first time in mid-August for a "drive motor issue" that was not       resolved until about a month later.              A WSF spokesperson said this is not unexpected for new or recently       upgraded vessels. The final stage of introducing a new ship into the       fleet is called "commissioning," which involves addressing issues that       don't arise until the ship enters service.              After that initial repair, the vessel was reintroduced, but taken out of       service again in late October. That was due to a problem with one of the       ship's electrical subsystems.              The boat was returned to service on Nov. 7, before being taken out again       just two days later.              WSF's sister vessels, the Tacoma and the Puyallup, were supposed to       undergo their own hybrid-electric conversions shortly after the       Wenatchee returned to service, but that plan was postponed by Washington       Gov. Bob Ferguson to return the ferry service to its full capacity in       time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will hold several games in       Seattle.              https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/state-hybrid-electric-ferry-wena       tchee-taken-out-of-service-third-time-july/281-5538dd7b-15a8-48af-a35b-a0       ad3167bd6d              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
