LOUIS — A St. Louis man will spend 15 years in prison after       admitting to beating and killing his ex-girlfriend inside an abandoned       home in 2024.              Eric D. Johnson, 43, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree       domestic assault in the fatal beating of Cherish Lappin in February of       2024. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dismissed six other       felonies, including first-degree murder and two counts of witness       tampering.              According to charging documents, police began their investigation after       Lappin was dropped off at an area hospital on Feb. 6 with significant       injuries. She was pronounced dead on Feb. 14.              During their investigation, a woman told police Johnson approached her       and asked for help caring for Lappin. The woman told police Johnson then       "indicated he had beaten her with his hands and a gun."              A second witness told police he saw Johnson beat the victim on multiple       occasions in the days before Lappin was dropped off at the hospital.              According to a press release from the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court of       Missouri, Johnson admitted to beating Lappin with his hands, a       two-by-four and a baseball bat inside a home at 14th Street and Cass       Avenue.              "A prosecutor read a letter in court from Lappin's mother that said she       and her daughter had trusted Johnson," the press release said. "The       letter said she hopes he'll never be able to torture another woman       again."              The case was set to go to trial next week.              https://media.ksdk.com/assets/KSDK/images/d0955dd9-f347-46ac-b93a-34ead2d       7a34f/d0955dd9-f347-46ac-b93a-34ead2d7a34f_1920x1080.jpg              Eric Johnson, 41, was charged with murder in connection with the deadly       beating of a woman in St. Louis.              https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/crime/man-takes-plea-deal-sentenced-to-       15-years-fatal-beating-ex-girlfriend/63-a9291c38-9727-42e0-9b44-2df004fa7       943              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
