   Just to play Devil's advocate, one *could* argue that Pretti would not   
   have been shot had he not been carrying a gun.  (Well, maybe not...   
   what if Elanor could fly?)   
      
   (OK, so what?)   
      
   If one accepts that idea (and chooses to carry a gun, anyway), then it   
   would follow that the person should open fire immediately.  Pretti had   
   time to have killed a couple of agents before they pulled him to the   
   ground.  If they're going to kill you anyway, you may as well do some   
   good on your way out the door.
