XPost: stl.general, alt.fan.rush-limbaugh, sac.politics       XPost: soc.culture.african.american       From: someone@outlook.com              ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A St. Louis County man is facing a criminal       charge after his roommate's body was found decomposing in their       apartment.              Terrance Smith, 49, was charged with abandonment of a corpse after his       roommate's body was found on the couch in their shared apartment.              According to the probable cause statement, police were requested on Jan.       21 to conduct a welfare check for a woman who lived at an apartment on       Dragonwyck Drive. When they arrived at the apartment, they found her       body on the couch under blankets and clothing.              Family identified the victim as Lawanda McGee. Her sister Ashley Barrett       said they had an unbreakable bond.              "She had just graduated from nursing school. We were excited to see what       she was preparing us for," Barrett said. "We've buried pretty much       everybody that we grew up with. Our parents, mom, dad, they're all gone.       It was just us two, so we were close."              Police said the victim's body was cold to the touch and displayed signs       of decomposition.              During their investigation, police discovered she was behind on her rent       and had not posted on social media since Dec. 15. Other residents of the       apartment said they had not seen her since mid-December.              Though the two hadn't talked since early December, Barrett admits it       wasn't until other relatives voiced their concerns about the silence       that alarms started going off in her mind.              "I started calling the hospitals, every hospital in St. Louis, just to       see if she was in the hospital. I started calling other places to see       if she was in other places," Barrett said. "I thought to myself, she       wouldn't be dead because I wouldn't have gotten a phone call."              Police said when they found the victim's body on Jan. 21, some of       Smith's personal items were at the apartment, but he was not.              On Feb. 2, Smith returned to the building, and an employee at the       leasing office called the police.              Officers arrived and took Smith into custody. He told them he lived in       the apartment with the victim.              Police have not said if they believe Smith was actively living inside       the apartment in the weeks before officers found the body, but Barrett       believes he was there.              "He sat with her for 38 days and just walked past her every day. He       covered her with blankets. He tried to air the place out so no one       could smell it," Barret claimed.              Police did not say how the victim died.              Smith was charged on Feb. 2. His bond was set at $100,000.              https://media.ksdk.com/assets/KSDK/images/d33774b0-b77e-4970-9740-110401e       3da13/20260205T042605/d33774b0-b77e-4970-9740-110401e3da13_1920x1080.jpg              Credit: St. Louis County Justice Center              https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/crime/man-charged-with-abandonment-of-c       orpse-roommate-found-decomposing-in-apartment/63-326e545c-5f47-4931-936a-       659b5812efee              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
