   A 41-year-old Hibbing woman has been sentenced for her role for   
   kidnapping her ex-boyfriend and holding him captive for days.   
      
   Shelly Jean Goerdt was sentenced for her role to three years in prison   
   by a judge in St. Louis County for her role in the crime. She pleaded   
   guilty to assault and false imprisonment charges last December.   
      
   Goerdt’s co-defendant and sister, Corrine Starc, also pleaded guilty to   
   kidnapping at a December hearing and will be sentenced later this month.   
      
   In February 2024, along with her sister, Goerdt lured her ex-boyfriend   
   to a Hibbing home.   
      
   The sisters then used a taser on the victim and held him in the bathroom   
   using rope, duct tape, and plastic wrap for three days, continuously   
   assaulting him.   
      
   The victim was eventually able to escape by hiding in an unheated garage   
   for several hours before making his way to a gas station to call for   
   help.   
      
   "Ms. Goerdt and Ms. Starc committed very serious offenses, and our   
   thoughts are with the victim as he continues to recover from the   
   grievous harm inflicted upon him," said St. Louis County Attorney   
   Kimberly Maki.   
      
   “My office remains committed to protecting the safety and wellbeing of   
   our citizens and to holding offenders accountable for crimes that   
   undermine these core principles.”
