XPost: mn.politics, alt.fan.rush-limbaugh, sac.politics       XPost: alt.politics.immigration       From: msims@badtacos.nz              A man who suffered multiple skull fractures when he was arrested by ICE       agents is seeking help to pay his medical bills.              The case Alberto Castañeda Mondragón, 31, is one of a number that has       sparked major controversy since Operation Metro Surge began in Minnesota       in late November.              He was brought to first Fairview Southdale Hospital and then Hennepin       County Medical Center in a life-threatening condition in the hours after       he was detained on Jan. 8.              A lawsuit filed on his behalf said that agents who brought him to the       hospital claimed he "purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall" while       attempting to flee arrest, with another agent adding that Mondragón "got       his shit rocked" when asked for further details by a doctor.              Since he is no longer sedated – albeit facing a long recovery and       requiring ongoing care – Mondragón has spoken out this week about how he       sustained his injuries, telling the Associated Press ICE agents "started       beating me right away when they arrested me" outside a St. Paul shopping       center, including "handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his       head with a steel baton"              Two ICE agents remained at HCMC while Mondragón was hospitalized, with       agents using handcuffs to shackle his legs to the bed despite complaints       from HCMC staff.              In a GoFundMe created to help Mondragón with his medical bills, the       31-year-old Mexican national says he has "lost many memories" as the       result of his injuries.              "I don't know why ICE did this to me. They did not detain me, I am not a       criminal, and the doctors say they were untruthful about how the       injuries occurred. But I prefer not to fight, I only want to recover,       pay my bills, and go back to work," he writes.              He said he came to the U.S. in 2022, entering on a temporary work visa,       a step he took to provide financial support to his ailing father and his       child in Veracruz, Mexico.              He has worked as a roofer and a driver in Minnesota, but was encountered       by ICE agents who pulled him from a friend's car in St. Paul.              ICE has claimed that Mondragón has overstayed his work visa, but the AP       reports that this was only determined after his arrest, which comes amid       complaints that federal immigration agents are profiling residents       during Operation Metro.              A judge ordered his release from ICE custody on Jan. 23, finding that       his arrest had been unlawful because ICE agents did not have a warrant       nor reasonable suspicion at the time they arrested him.              https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/man-who-suffered-skull-fracture       s-during-arrest-by-ice-is-seeking-help-for-medical-bills              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
