XPost: oh.general, alt.fan.rush-limbaugh, sac.politics       XPost: alt.politics.immigration       From: msims@badtacos.nz              A federal grand jury has charged a Toledo man with threatening to kill       Vice President JD Vance during his Jan. 22 visit to the city.              Shannon Mathre, 33, was arrested by the Secret Service and was booked in       the Lucas County jail Friday following an alleged threat to take the       life of a successor to the presidency, officials said.              According to the indictment, Mr. Mathre allegedly said, “I am going to       find out where he is going to be and use my M14 automatic gun and kill       him.”              Mr. Vance visited East Toledo last month to tout the Trump       Administration’s economic and employment policies. Later that day, he       stopped in Minneapolis encouraging cooperation with immigration agents       there.              “Hostile and violent threats made against the Vice President, or any       other public official, will not be tolerated in our District,” David M.       Toepfer, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, said in a       news release. “Anyone threatening this kind of action will face swift       justice and prosecution. We commend the actions of our local and state       law enforcement who collaborated with U.S. Secret Service to take this       individual into custody.”              While investigating threats against Mr. Vance, federal agents discovered       multiple digital files of child sexual abuse materials in Mr. Mathre’s       possession.              The grand jury has further charged the Toledoan with the receipt and       distribution of images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit       conduct between Dec. 31 and Jan. 21.              If found guilty, Mr. Mathre could face up to five years in prison and up       to $250,000 for threatening the life of the vice president. He could       also face up to 20 years in prison and up to $250,000 for the CSAM       charge.              First Published February 7, 2026, 6:42 a.m.              https://www.toledoblade.com/local/police-fire/2026/02/07/toledo-man-charg       ed-threat-kill-jd-vance/stories/20260207116              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
