One of my sons has been training jiu jitsu since he was six, and started
competing from when he was 8 - at that age, there's no difference between
boys and girls and there'd often be mixed groups competing. As puberty
kicks in, that does of course start to change but I've been at
competitions and seen teenage girls absolutely beat the living daylights
out of teenage boys on the mats, and seen some of these teenage girls
compete in absolutes that include adults and they've beaten the hell out
of fully-grown men.... And from my own experience sparring casually at the
gym - I have had my arse handed to me by plenty of women. It comes down to
training - if a female has put the work in and is skilled, she's going to
be able to physically hold her own against many men and neutralise much of
any natural raw strength disadvantage she may be at.

So, going back to the comment upthread - there is nothing wrong with boys
and girls wrestling in school tournaments, imo.
