   I grew up poor in rural Illinois. But my (divorced) father would treat us   
   to (compensatory?) zoo and museum visits, science-fiction paperbacks,   
   telescopes, microscopes... We even managed to get a set of Worldbook   
   Encyclopedia.   
      
   And look at me now! Old, pudgy, retired, and tinkering endlessly on laptops.
