I think most sysops are quite fine with running VM's with the  
older OSes that they need, or NTVDM or that other one called  
NT64XVDM or something.

There isn't much of a rising public demand for BBSes and  
echomail systems, but I doubt that an "updated" FTN design will  
make a difference.
