I'll try a reply with the Japanese one with OpenXP next.  I'm sure it will get
munged since OXP does not support UTF-8.  However, I do think it treats
newsgroups/nntp differently.  But I don't carry TUXPOWER as a nntp/newsgroup.

The Sylpheed gui is pretty good for most of this kind of messaging.  Latvian
would be my goto language if there was an audience.  But alas, there are many
more plentiful people who can manage English.

I don't think Fidonet will ever be an enduring messaging system.  I think too
many people operate with GUI apps, and Fidonet messaging has simply not
reached that user-base.
