No doubt.  ibm437 lacks the proper characters for conversion from old
english.  You'd have better luck with iso-8859-1 but I believe even that lacks
at least a couple of proper characters for old english.

utf-8 is the way to go.  Speaking for myself ascii is what I use on a daily
basis.
