Now that you mention it I don't see UTF-8 in /usr/lib/gconv/gconv-modules but
it still shows up in 'iconv --list'.  So far a search hasn't yielded any
information about this other than one that reports missing LATIN1 which isn't
an issue with glibc-2.41 from what I see here.  UTF-8 does work despite this
flaw.

Heh, heh.  Ask Bill Gates why that should be avoided.

If you are seriously asking, the reason it should be avoided is that UTF-16,
as well as UTF-32, are not compatible with ASCII, whereas the first 128 codes
of UTF-8 *are* ASCII and will produce standard text messages as this nonreply
is evidence of.
