The percentage is rather meaningless and misleading anyway as 50% of voters
voted Republican believing Democrats were too liberal.

Take those away and the bottom line is 16% of Democrats believe the party has
   become too liberal, 84% don't.

Amusingly, 58% of voters think the Republican Party has become too extreme.
They have the exact same problem as Democrats.

The real question is whether the 16% of Democrats who think their party is too
liberal and/or the 16% of Republicans who think theirs is too extreme switch
their vote to the other party or simply not vote ?

The most likely reality is, no matter what happens, it will even itself out
and America will remain divided and polarised with around the same 50-50 split.

Then, given the corrupt electoral college system, it depends on how voters in
   each state vote.

That Republican states are engaged in all manner of gerrymandering and voter
suppression indicates Republicans fear they are heading towards defeat but
we'll get a better idea of how the field lies come the mid-terms.
