Well, I am sure some people might have thought Conrad was a
genuine bloke and that himself and Ruby would live happily ever
   after.

   I didn't!

There will always be some sort of trope in an ongoing TV series.
A seemingly good guy that is really a bad guy is fairly common.

A script is telling a story, there will usually be some sort of
message. Okay, maybe sometimes it can be a bit more in your face
these days as writers and producers think we are all stupid. But
Doctor Who having a message is nothing new... for instance, "The
Green Death" (from 1973) had a message in the script and it
worked well within the story... it was not in-your-face "soap
boxing" the way modern TV shows go about it.

Depends on what the message is and how good the actual story
that it's wrapped up in is. It doesn't always have to be a
political allegory... but there's usually some sort of a
message somewhere, even if it's only subtle. Unfortunately RTD
   doesn't tend to do subtle!

The spin-off show "The War Between the Land and the Sea", which
will feature the UNIT characters featured in this episode... as
   well as the Sea Devils.

(This has been mentioned here before.)

That's when "The War Between the Land and the Sea" will be
   broadcast...
