The Doctors new suit - Christmas filming in Rhiwbina

There was plenty of Christmas action last night in the leafy Cardiff
 suburb of Rhiwbina.

Madge drives The Doctor toward the 'TARDIS'Set reporters saw Claire Skinner
 on location driving a period car toward what appears to be the TARDIS
 with Matt Smith in the passenger seat wearing a charcoal and silver
 space suit with the helmet back-to-front.

 BBC Wales also have a great gallery of set photos, and ahremsee's flickr
 contains more marvellous shots with even more on Mugim0e's flickr.


In ahremsee's fantastic video below you'll see the filming of a scene with
 Claire Skinner's character, Madge guiding a disoriented Time Lord to the
 TARDIS. The Doctor seems to say goodbye to Madge only to enter the TARDIS
 to discover it's the wrong one, it's a real Police Box.

Christmas Special Casting Announced

According to The Sun, The Christmas Special, set in World War Two will
 feature QI and Black Books comedian Bill Bailey, Pointless host and voice 
of Sarah Jane Adventures Mr. Smith Alexander Armstrong, Fast Show
 Comedienne Arabella Weir and as suspected, 
Outnumbered star Claire Skinner as widower Madge Arwell.

The World War Two setting would seem to fit in with rumours that we've heard
 that the special will be based on C. S. Lewis' seminal Christian fantasy 
 novel, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. And let's be honest, 
 as speculation goes: Bill Bailey would make a fantastic Mr. Tumnus 
and Alexander Armstrong has a great voice for Aslan. That being said, 
and given Aslan's role in the story, surely the almost god-like Doctor
 would be well suited to it.

The Daily Star confirms that the special will be based on 
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, telling us:

    The special sees the Time Lord (Matt Smith, 28) crash land in war-torn 
  England. Posing as the caretaker of a creepy old house in Dorset he embarks
  on a magical mystery adventure with 
 Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril.

    The three have been evacuated from London as the capital 
  comes under attack during World War Two.

    And there's plenty of surprises as the Doctor leads them into a new world.

SFX reports that the director for the Special will be Farren Blackburn.
  Farren's previous work includes Survivors and the forthcoming BBC 
 Three supernatural drama, The Fades.

I guess that puts an end to my hope that the Christmas Special would be called
 How the Daleks Stole Christmas.

'Doctor Who' 2011 Christmas Special Details Revealed

The Doctor will make another house call this holiday season.

Although this past weekend's episode of "Doctor Who" saw the departure 
(for now) of Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her husband, Rory Williams
 (Arthur Darvill), the Doctor (Matt Smith) is still on target 
for his annual Christmas episode.

The BBC has officially announced that production has begun for this year's
 "Doctor Who" Christmas special, which will continue through the end of
 October. Claire Skinner ("Outnumbered") will play a young widowed bride
 named Made Arwell, with Bill Bailey ("Black Books"),
 Arabella Weir ("The Fast Show") and 
Alexander Armstrong ("Armstrong & Miller") also set to appear
 within the episode.

However, the announcement didn't specify whether Gillan or Darvill would also
 appear. "Doctor Who" showrunner, Steven Moffat is writing the script 
for the special as he did for last year's "A Christmas Carol."

"The Doctor at Christmas - nothing is more fun to write," said Moffat.
 "Maybe because it's so his kind of day - everything's bright and shiny,
  everybody's having a laugh, and nobody minds if you wear a really stupid hat.
 Of all the Doctors, Matt Smith's is the one that was born for this time of
 year - so it's the best news possible that he's heading back down the
chimney."

The BBC has also released a brief synopsis for the episode:

"The special, set during World War II, sees Madge Arwell and her two children,
 Lily and Cyril, evacuated to a draughty old house in Dorset, where the
 caretaker is a mysterious young man in bow tie, and a big blue parcel is 
 waiting for them under the tree. They are about to enter a magical new world
 and learn that a Time Lord never forgets his debts..."

If BBC and BBC America repeat last year's arrangements, then the special will
 air on Christmas Day in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

Only two episodes remain in the sixth season of "Doctor Who," 
but just to tide you over, here's the trailer for Saturday's episode which
 brings back the Doctor's reluctant roommate, Craig (James Corden)... 
and the Cybermen.
