It's based on a line in the wedding episode.

Doctor:

Rory:
No, I'm not Mr Pond. That's not how it works.

Doctor:
Yeah, it is.

Rory:
...yeah, it is.


While calling Rory "Mr Pond" appears to be purely the Doctor's gag, it 
does seem to be the case that Amy's kept her name, as many women do, so 
"the Williamses" is no more accurate than "the Ponds".
