Are you sure she meant Ace? I assumed it was Dodo that she was referring to. 
They were all companions from before Sarah's time with the Doctor except 
Tegan. I can't see Ace as a charity worker. She was a mercenary  in the 
one-off (Mindgame?) with a sontaran and another alien. Sorry, I can't 
remember who made that or how 'official' it is as it is a long time since I 
saw it.
