I am around the 50 +/- distance and have got the distinct impression that an outdoor antenna may not be enough. Once the "local" broadcasters went digital, most really lowered their power ratings. Between that at all the hills locally, you pretty much have to have cable to get "local" TV. Supposedly, this area had one of the very first (if not the first) cable TV "companies." One neighbor set up an antenna high enough to pull in the distant broadcasts, and then offered to let other neighbors hook up to it. It eventually became a municipal utility.
