With no idea what your actual problem is,
no hints or breadcrumbs, what else could
I suggest ?
 
A factory restore puts things in a known
state, no matter what you've done to your OS.

I wish there was a tutorial that explained the
permissions and accounts model, but there isn't
any that I could find. A good tutorial would
guide you away from banging your head against
a wall - if it does that, the tutorial is a
success.
