There may be incompatibilities in some drives/firmware/laptops -- for example, I could get a 64 GB PATA SSD to boot in a T42 and T43, but a 128GB SSD would only boot in the T43. Thinkpads were particularly picky about drives, as they had built-in features to protect drives from motion damage that required specific drives. ...
