I have very little experience with VMWare, I've almost always used VirtualBox
for running stuff in VM's. If I were going to run Win10 in a VM, I would most
definitely give it far more RAM than 1Gb, I would probably give it 3Gb. Perhaps
you should try increasing the amount of RAM you're allocating to the VM.

The one thing that's really puzzling me here is that you say you can't get
setup.exe to run under Win10(x64) on bare metal ???

The last time I ran setup.exe(from wp2005b5), I ran it on Win10(x64)(21H1) and
I had no problems whatsoever.
