Pretty bad...  I'd guess some would have had private rations from "care"
packages from home... I wonder how many belts needed replacing...? [g]

I had a friend rig up a "stove" from baking pans, water, and floating
tea light candles...  she claimed it worked well enough to heat water
for her tea... ;)  Can't imagine that it gave off much heat for the
apartment though...
