One interesting note that I read recently from a NOAA forecaster.

The temps this week (lows/highs) in our location in Maryland are much colder
(20 degrees on average) than the temp/forecasted temps for Anchorage, Alaska!

The cold dome of air is located in a different location this winter, creating
a highway for cold air to hit the northeast directly from the artic.
