You worked for it, after all... :)  Rob had a paper route for a while,
too... and did some door-to-door sales, cards and wrapping paper, etc, I 
think...  Go-getters were somewhat rare even then...  I suppose that a
lot of factors go into that, like overly generous allowances, laziness,
no encouragement...
